You need to recompile to apply the patch:

        wget http://www.mmonit.com/monit/dist/monit-5.3.tar.gz
        tar -xzf monit-5.3.tar.gz
        cd monit-5.3
        patch -p0 < mem_percent.patch
        ./configure
        make
        make install
