Hi Mark,
Ubuntu is usually conservative and updates the package version on new Ubuntu
release (sync to Debian). The Monit package in Debian is updated to 5.2.1
already (thanks to Debian package maintainer who is very proactive).
We started to provide pre-compile Monit binaries as well, so you can get the
binary for 32-bit and 64-bit linux here:
http://www.mmonit.com/monit/download/
You can uncompress the package and replace the monit binary on your system. I
think Debian and Ubuntu package customize the configuration file search path
(monitrc -> monit.conf), so you may need to add symbolic link to your
monit.conf.
The whole upgrade may look for example like this:
wget http://www.mmonit.com/monit/dist/binary/5.2.1/monit-5.2.1-linux-x64.tar.gz
tar -xzf monit-5.2.1-linux-x64.tar.gz
cp monit-5.2.1/bin/monit /usr/bin/monit
ln -s /etc/monit.conf /etc/monitrc
Regards,
Martin
