User-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.9) Gecko/20061219 Iceape/1.0.7 (Debian-1.0.7-1)

Usually just daemons create a pidfile - user oriented programs such as email clients rarely.

Generally you can create the pidfile yourself for any program, see monit FAQ - question/answer no. 3 (http://www.tildeslash.com/monit/doc/faq.php).
