make results in ""p.y", line 242" error in monit-4.5.1 on Solaris 8 system

I'm trying to install version 4.5.1
of monit on a sparc solaris 8 system.  I have installed:
  gcc_small-3.4.2 
  libiconv-1.8-sol8-sparc-loca 
  flex-2.5.31 
  make-3.80
(gnu) 

./configure runs OK. 

Here's what I get when attempting to compile: 
# make && make install 
yacc -dt p.y 
"p.y", line 242: warning: redeclaration of precedence of EXPECT.

m4: bad option: -P 
make: *** [lex.yy.c] Broken Pipe

Any suggestions?
