I am agree if the install target looks like this:
STRIP_PROG = strip
# or better with configure support
#STRIP_PROG = @STRIP_PROG@
...
install:: install-common
$(STRIP_PROG) --strip-all $(PROG) $(check-exit)
$(INSTALL_PROG) $(PROG) $(DESTDIR)$(BINDIR) $(check-exit)
Than I can use it in a way like this:
#> make STRIP_PROG=powerpc-linux-strip install
I think, most peoples would use: make install, and NOT: make install-debug for
optimized crosscompiled code ;-)
