monitoring network interfaces (topic for discussion)

Hi,

i think it could be usefull to add interface monitoring, mainly for 
network interfaces (but other types such as serial, etc. is possible as 
well). It could be then possible to watch collisions and other sort of 
errors/failures, throughput, number of active and passive connections, 
time-wait, icmp messages and udp packets, etc.

What about to schedule it for some future release?
