This is a good idea, but I don't kow that you need monit to know about
cores in order to do it...

At least, I do this currently with shell scripts, and it works really
well (I run gdb to generate a stack trace and get locals to see what was
going on during the crash, and then email that to a crash report alias
that goes to intersted people).  All you need is to run a script on
restart that checks for core files.
