Yes.. It's fine to cherrypick just needed stuff. Portaudio if currently little painful.. yes and I noticed too late id3tag nad taglib where supported.
How much work that portaudio stuff needs to be really workable solutions?

Indeed! I’ve cherry-picked/updated everything apart from portaudio and the new 
packages on #298 (id3lib and taglib already exist - not updated for shared yet):
