There's a configure option "gl_cv_func_gettimeofday_clobber=no" in the forked
repo:
http://hg.octave.org/mxe-octave
that lets the build progress for another half hour so, but then there are other
errors that look like static vs shared issues. You may want to check if static
building is supported.
