At least for fontconfig (as built by the makefile for
mingw-cross-env), I've determined that the "fonts" directory that
fontconfig creates under e.g.
/opt/mingw-cross-env/usr/i686-pc-mingw32/etc needs to be placed in the
same folder on the windows machine as the final executable. If
another location is desired, AFAICT it should be possible to set this
to something else with the --sysconfdir for fontconfig's ./configure.
If anyone else is using fontconfig with mingw-cross-env, I would be
interested to hear how this was handled.
Anyway, with the above directory in place, fontconfig and SDL_Pango
appear to work perfectly. This appears to be the cause of the earlier
problem I mentioned, where SDL_Pango built correctly but the resulting
binary didn't display any text.
