AFAIK, the short alias is computed only once and stored in the file's
directory entry.  See my other mail about this.

As for multiple files that map to the same alias (except for the
~N numeric tail), if using a file name with embedded blanks is
something users should stay away of, using _multiple_ file names like
that is a crime for which they deserve to be punished ;-)
