I'm still seeing the error (always exit code 1) at seemingly random intervals 
on the test data set with plzip 1.6 (stock & patched), 1.7-rc1 (along with 
updated lzlib), & with the modified version you sent.
The good news is that with stock 1.6, 1.7-rc1, & modified I no longer see 
incorrect results. Either it succeeds or fails. If it fails, manually looping 
through reducing threads eventually succeeds with correct results.
