Lzip is a lossless data compressor with a user interface similar to the one of gzip or bzip2. Lzip is about as fast as gzip, compresses most files more than bzip2, and is better than both from a data recovery perspective. Lzip is a clean implementation of the LZMA algorithm.

The lzip file format is designed for long-term data archiving. It is clean, provides very safe 4 factor integrity checking, and is backed by the recovery capabilities of lziprecover.

The homepage is at http://www.nongnu.org/lzip/lzip.html

Changes in this version:

  * Compression ratio of option "-9" has been slightly increased.

* Compression time of option "-0" has been reduced by 2%. "lzip -0" is now comparable in compression speed and ratio to "gzip -6".

Antonio Diaz, lzip author and maintainer.
