[Lzip-bug] general question about lzip |

Hi,
I'm curious, is there any advantage that lzip offers over the lzma
command-line program provided by LZMA utilities
(http://tukaani.org/lzma/)? It seems to me as though the fundamental
purpose (compression using the LZMA algorithm, with the same
command-line interface as gzip or bzip2) is identical.
In an empirical test -- compressing the linux kernel source with lzma
-9 and lzip -9 -- I found that the compressed file produced by lzip
was slightly larger than the one from lzma (40.27mb vs 39.97mb), and
compression took significantly longer (16:32 vs 10:02).
Cheers,
bn
