For some reason the Windows binaries for LyX come with a version of python that 
does not include the module "_socket". You can remedy this by installing your 
own full version of Python, available from 

    http://www.python.org/download/ 

Make sure you point your system path to the directory where python.exe resides. 
Let me know when you've got it working.
