I understood that (from your suggested patch). When I reread the code,
there seems to be no reason to disagree with it. I was rewriting a
module that I'd written for ncurses which simply returns a buffer size
without formatting - not efficient - into the present form which allocates
and formats as it goes.
I'll put that change out as dev.6 (in the meantime I was testing some changes
for lynx & ncurses on OS/2 which someone sent me, with the implication that
I should see some more bugs to fix - not the case yet). Since this bug is
an irritant (and no one's got any other critical bugs), there's no reason
to hold up the fix.
