Sorry, I tried everything you suggested but didn't help. E.g.,

% gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -Ichrtrans -I./chrtrans -I.. -I../src
-I../WWW/Library/Implementation -O2 -o lynx *.o ../WWW/Library/unix/libwww.a
-lcurses -ltermcap
../WWW/Library/unix/libwww.a: could not read symbols: Memory exhausted
