aloha, fote!

would it be possible when displaying pop-up selection boxes to force the
cursor to the left of the option rather than the right? this would
make it possible for screen readers to speak the option when the speech
user is scrolling through the choices by issuing the "say word"
command... with the cursor on the right of the option, all one hears is
"blank" or "space", which forces one to use the "say line" command, which
reads everything on the screen behind the pop-up box (i.e. from character
1 to 80) if the cursor were placed on the left--more specifically on the
first character of the option--then one could traverse the list very
easily aurally, using the screen-reader's say word command...

while i know that you've already implemented the SELECT_POPUPS option
which to auto-convert select option pop-ups into radio buttons, placing the
cursor on the left of the pop-up option would greatly help anyone using a
refreshable braille display, or anyone with low vision or dyslexia who is
using speech-synthesis as an adjunct to screen magnification... it would
also help speech-only users when they encounter elephantine listings of
options, that when converted into radio buttons, take several screens to
display...

for the new release of Bobcat (0.4), wayne buttles recently moved the cursor
from the right to the left, and though a small tweak (involving, he indicated,
only a one-line change), it does make a _dramatic_ improvement in
usability...

thanks,
        gregory
