Hi,
For the root user part you need them to execute the simhost application so you need to have it on that system
But you need not have them on the other system running server on port 8080 over linux as you say
Regarding sample application if i understand your need correctly then here is what i have tested to be working
You can create a standard TCP server using sockets on linux
Then on remote machine run a simhost server from contrib ports and then connect to it via telnet there you will find options to establish connections and send messages to server over TCP or UDP
