How about adding an
#ifndef LWIP_NOASSERT
#endif
around the definition of ASSERT? This way the current behaviour is
unchanged, unless you define LWIP_NOASSERT. If you do (and define
LWIP_DEBUG) then you get debug info without the assert's being checked.
