To reproduce:
cd /opt/lmi/bin
./wx_test.exe --ash_nazg --data_path=/opt/lmi/data >eraseme 2>&1
od -t a eraseme |head

I was expecting "NOTE:" instead of "address@hidden@address@hidden@:^@".
(Using a somewhat outdated cygwin installation (which still supports
msw-xp), that looks fine with some tools like 'cat', but like кракозябры
in 'less'.)
We hadn't noticed this previously, though we can't prove that it hasn't
always behaved this way. Kim sees this with msw-7; I see it with msw-xp
and also with 'wine':
0000000 N nul O nul T nul E nul : nul sp nul s nul t nul
0000020 a nul r nul t nul i nul n nul g nul sp nul t nul
0000040 h nul e nul sp nul t nul e nul s nul t nul sp nul
0000060 s nul u nul i nul t nul e nul I n sp f i l
0000100 e sp . . / s r c / m s w / t o p
0000120 l e v e l . c p p sp a t sp l i n
I'll start a new thread for internal wx diagnostics that are seen only
with 'wine', which seem to be ASCII or UTF-8.
