[lmi] lmi Help: User Manual and interactive "?" |

I've listed the following items that I perceive as
critical with lmi's Help contents.
From the "Let me illustrate? User Manual":
1. Immediately, upon execution of Help, the user is
brought to page 1 of the user manual. The resulting page has
3 bolded, underlined, headings:
TUTORIAL; FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS; COMMANDS
These appear as though you could click on them and be brought
to another part of the document; however, the following error
is produced immediately upon clicking each heading:
Lmi_wx Error
---------------------------
Unable to open requested HTML document:
user_manual_tutorial.html
-was expecting to be brought down in the body of the
document to the respective area.
2. Clicking on bulleted topics, with the exception of
'Working with Multiple Life Case', 'Census Menu', 'Windows
Menu', and 'Help Menu', as well as other underlined words,
will bring you to the respective area, but heading is
either cut off or not seen at all.
-would expect heading to fully appear, without having to
scroll.
3. Tutorial will not stay open when trying to go through
steps described. For example, if trying to follow
steps to create 'single life case' and have a current lmi
input screen open, user is unable to revert back and read
what to do next. User must click cancel and then tutorial
will reappear.
-would expect tutorial to be available as a working tool
without having to 'cancel' the entry screen.
Without this ability, it will prompt users to print the
tutorial.
4. Under "Making an illustration for a single life case",
states: "to enter the client's name, go to the
Client tab and enter the first, middle, and last names".
-Depending on the skin, names are also entered in Names tab.
5. Under "Making an illustration for a single life case",
states: "When you have filled in all the information,
Press OK. The illustration is calculated and displayed.
-specifically, the calculation summary is displayed.
6. Under "Loading a saved illustration",
states: "You can also open files by dragging and dropping
them on lmi."
-was not successful in doing that.
-User must right click on the file name and choose select,
which causes the file to open automatically in lmi.
7. Under "Changing input for an illustration",
states: "Or pull down the Census menu and click on
Properties"
-since section refers to illustration, it should
reference Illustration Menu.
-Properties should be replaced with Edit Cell.
8. Under "Changing input for an illustration", same
reference to entering client's name in the Client
tab in this section.
-Depending on the skin, names are also entered in
Names tab.
9. Under "Printing an illustration" icon displayed is
the Print Cell button for a census, not Print button
for an illustration.
-Icon should be changed.
10. No information on Print Preview button.
-would expect Print Preview button to be pressed
prior to Print button. PDF should be reviewed on-screen
prior to printing, to avoid incorrect or unwanted output.
11. No information on the availability of Calculation
summary Preferences, or printing and copying capabilities.
12. There is a topic on creating a new census; I think a link
to the "Pasting a census from a spreadsheet" should be added to
this section because that's a technique many users will want to
use when they receive their census in a spreadsheet.
13. "Pasting a census from a spreadsheet" section appears
to list some of the headers available, but not all.
-If listed are the most common, then I would expect them to
be noted as such.
At first glance, due to the introduction line, both columns
appear to be "column headers", when in fact, only the first
column has headers and the second column is info to be
populated under those headers.
-a description of columns should be added
Headers of FirstName, MiddleName, and LastName no longer
apply and should be removed. InsuredName should be added.
-would expect the Paste Census data icon to be depicted.
A sample census is shown, indicating
"here is a census you can copy and paste";
-These functions are not available within the tutorial.
Last sentence states:
"For the time being, values entered are not validated."
-not sure what 'for the time being' actually means.
14. Under "Loading a saved census", states: "Pick the
file you want and press OK."
-OK should be replaced with OPEN.
15. Section states: "You can also open files by dragging
and dropping them on lmi."
-was not successful in doing that.
-User must right click on the file name, choose select,
which will cause the file to open automatically in lmi.
16. Under "Changing input for an individual on a census"
states:
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Properties."
-Properties should be replaced with Edit Cell.
Also states, "When you have filled in all the information,
press OK. The illustration is calculated and displayed."
-This should be removed, since this would not occur after
updating an individual cell:
17. Under "Changing case or class default input on a census"
states:
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Case default
properties."
-Case default properties should be replaced with Edit Case
defaults.
Also states: "If you want, you can apply the changes to
every individual and every class."
-This is confusing since we chose to Edit Case which means
we intended to chase every individual and every class...
18. Under "Changing case or class default input on a census"
states:
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Class default
properties."
-Class default properties should be replaced with
Edit Class defaults.
19. Under "Adding a new individual to a census", states:
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Add life."
-life should be removed replaced with cell
20. Under "Deleting an individual from a census",
states:
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Delete life."
-life should be removed and replaced with cell(s)
21. Under "Run an individual or composite illustration",
states:
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Run selected
life."
-life should be removed and replaced with cell
Also states: "The illustration is calculated and
displayed."
-specifically, the Calculation summary for the individual
is calculated and displayed.
Also states: "The composite is calculated and displayed."
-specifically, the Calculation summary for the composite
is calculated and displayed.
22. Under "Changing the column widths on the census
display", states:
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Expand
columns."
-Expand columns should be removed and replaced with
Varying column width.
Also states:
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Shrink
columns."
-Shrink columns should be removed and replaced with
Fixed column width.
23. Under "Printing census illustrations"
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Run and
print selected life."
-life should be removed and replaced with cell
Also states:
"Or pull down the Census menu and click on Run and
print case."
-case should be removed and replaced with all cells
24. Under "Saving a census", states:
"Either way, type in a file name and press OK."
-OK should be removed and replaced with SAVE.
25. Under "Frequency asked questions", "Why does a
new census appear blank?"
"But the census manager displays only nondefault
values, so it has no columns to display."
-"census manager" is not lmi terminology. The
word "manager" should be removed.
26. Under "Interpreting the census display", states:
"The input can vary for each individual as described
in the topic working with a single life case."
-information described in that topic area, does not
Describe any detail. Not sure if worth mentioning.
27. Under "What's 'month-by-month' processing order?"
states:
"There are two ways run all the individuals in a census."
-change to either:
There are two ways to run all the individuals in a census.
There are two ways of running all individuals in a census.
28. Under 'Commands', 'File Menu' states:
"You can also open files by dragging and dropping
them on lmi."
-was not successful in doing that. It should be removed.
29. Under 'Commands', 'Toolbar commands', produces error
upon clicking:
Lmi_wx Warning
---------------------------
HTML anchor toolbar_commands does not exist.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
-Toolbar commands should be removed since there is no
information within the manual on this topic.
From the interactive "?":
An additional critical item is in the interactive "?",
in the Client tab of the Single Premium skin, for the
"Monthly flat extra per thousand" edit control box.
The help given = "Flat extra: annual amount per thousand".
-Either the field label or Help given is incorrect.
I feel this should be corrected since the information is
contradicting.
