Today's News Flashes Researchers Find New Use for Anti-Malarial Drug A study reveals taking hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) -- an anti-malarial drug -- may reduce the risk of developing diabetes in rheumatoid arthritis patients. Meats, Sweets Up Breast Cancer Risk Asian women who tank up on meats and sweets are more likely to develop breast cancer than those who eat a traditional Eastern diet full of vegetables and soy products. Newer Diabetes Meds Keep the Pounds Off Diabetics concerned about weight gain and other side effects of standard diabetes medications might want to ask their doctors about a new class of drugs. FDA Hedges on Tomato Benefits The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports there is little evidence to show eating tomatoes will ward off cancer, but the agency is stopping short of saying the fruit -- and its key ingredient, lycopene -- play no role in cancer prevention. Antibiotics Don't Prevent UTI in Kids Doctors will often recommend a daily dose of antibiotics for children who are prone to urinary tract infections. However, new evidence reveals this practice does not prevent children from getting infections and may actually increase the risk of treatment-resistant infections.
