--- Begin Message --- Subject: How do I hide headers? Date: Fri, 29 Jun 2007 18:56:44 -0700 User-agent: Gnus/5.1008 (Gnus v5.10.8) Emacs/22.1 (gnu/linux)

Recently and for no apparent reason I have been unable to hide any of the
headers in new articles. I thought I knew all the relevant Gnus
configuration, but nothing I do has helped. When I first look at an article
all the headers are shown without highlighting. If I invoke the command
gnus-summary-toggle-header (e.g. by pressing t) only the "visible headers" are
shown and the header keywords are highlighted. The command
gnus-summary-verbose-headers, with or without an optional argument, has no
effect until gnus-summary-toggle-header is invoked after which it works as
expected.

Here are the values of the various variables I think relevant:

I am using Emacs version 22.1.1 and Gnus version 5.10.8 though I have just
recently upgraded both and was having the same problem with earlier versions.

I have tried such extremes as setting gnus-visible-headers to nil and changing
the value of gnus-ignored-headers as well as many changes to the value of
gnus-visible-headers. All of these had the expected effect *after* invoking
gnus-summary-toggle-header, but no effect before!

Strangely enough I had a very similar problem three years ago, but then I was
able to solve it by upgrading Emacs and Gnus. No such luck this time.

Comments, particularly from anyone who has had this problem, will be much
appreciated.
