In the meantime I was able to confirm that the problem is within my configuration folder. This is what I did:

1.      Linphone was still crashing at every startup

2.      I moved the folder “C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Linphone” to the Desktop (as Backup)

3.      I started Linphone, et voila, no crashing anymore. Linphone created a new configuration in the folder “C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Linphone”.

4.      Now I can start and stop Linphone as much as I want, it doesn’t crash anymore.

5.      Furthermore, I then copied the configuration file “linphonerc” from my backup into the config folder and the issue is still gone, without having lost my configuration.

In other words, the Problem was caused by one or more of the following files:

.linphone.ecstate

.linphone-call-history.db

.linphone-friends.db

.linphone-history.db

linphone-zidcache

No clue whether one of the DBs was corrupt or what else could have caused the crash. The developers know the best where unhandled exceptions may occur. Would be nice to have a “catch” around them ;-)

Best regards

Stefano

Subject: Linphone crashes at startup

Dear all,

I am having issues starting Linphone on my Windows 7 / 64bit machine. I’m using the latest version and it crashes right at the beginning.

I have tried to uninstall and install it again, but the issue is still the same. Please find attached the log file. The only suspicious message I see is the following:

Error in connect: Bad file descriptor

The work-around I have found is the following:

1.      Disable Internet Connection before starting Linphone (i.e. disable WiFi in my case)

2.      Start Linphone. If it still crashes, try again. On the second attempt it always started successfully so far.

3.      Enable Internet Connection again

It also happens, that Linphone will crash for example when pressing the Hangup button to terminate a call.

I have read in older mailing lists that there was an issue with the DNS lookup. Is this issue still present in the latest version?

As this issue appeared only a few days ago, I assume that there is something wrong with my configuration. Any hint is welcome.

Best regards

Stefano
