Here is why contacts do not work for me.

If I go to new contact.

Enter first and last name

In the sip address field I type sip:(IP address)

check Okay

Then linphone erroneously appends @sip.linphone.org to the address, making an invalid address.

I am using an LG Realm Android cell phone, with Linphone 2.4.0, and Android 4.4.2.

I have also had the same problem on older Droids.

I routinely use Iphones, Macs and windows computers and they all work fine.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

There is no issue known at this day regarding contacts saving but we made some changes recently so we're interested in your logs!
