That is helpful information. I had the same problem but on a openSUSE 12.3 system with the git version of Linphone (instead of 3.6.1). On openSUSE, the package "libasound2-dev" is called "alsa-devel" instead.
It would be nice if "./configure" checked and possibly output a message that these header files are missing.
