We have a real-time text addition to Linphone, implementing RFC 4103 in a text RTP session.
Rapid first transmission.
redundant transmissions follow at 300 ms intervals to assure robustness.

I'd like to have a low latency data channel in order to send small amounts of information between 2 connected clients ( tens of bytes per message) .  I tried doing this with the chat tutorial but it seems slow.
What is a good way to implement this?  Maybe a dummy audio codec?
