Inserting "extra" items into Table of Contents

Hi all,

My document has an introductory text section not handled by Lilypond.  I'm hoping to add references to it in the normal Lilypond table of contents, something like

Foreword                        i

Introduction                   iii

etc.  How can I add arbitrary Name and Page numbers to the table of contents?  I'm looking at toc-init.ly, but I'm afraid the Scheme code is pretty opaque to me...
