It depends how you read the list. Reached by a browser, that link
displays the image after the message (for me), but a saved copy of the
page (or hovering over the image with the cursor) shows that the image
is actually being downloaded from a link:

  <a href="pngaidFgtkyly.png" ><img src="pngaidFgtkyly.png" alt="PNG image"></a>

or IOW, from 
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/2019-07/pngaidFgtkyly.png

Now look at the same message as an individual post sent from the list,
and you can see that it's included as an attachment:

But now take a look at the *Digest* emails. If you get them sent as
large MIME attachments, then you're in the same position as
subscribers to the individual emails. However, if you get them sent
as smaller, text-only digests, you'll find the attachment is
"scrubbed", and there's a link for fetching it:

I reported this problem in March 2016, but no reply from the
powers that be.
