That's quite hardcoded for some reason but you can get around it by
putting something like
\override StaffSymbol.line-positions = #'(-5 -3 -1 1
3 5)
into the context modifications for TabStaff and then messing with the
vertical placement of elements until they fit again. That's so much of
a crutch that there may be other side effects.
