Hi David,

When I used Finale, I was dissatisfied with a lot
Who wasn’t (or, poor souls, isn’t currently)?  ;)

The editors of the last big composers (print) edition, who are just happy that it is so easy to drag stuff where they want to see it ...

And drag, and redrag when layout changes, and redrag, and...

Concretely we were talking about a case where (in sketches) ties start in mid-measure, as if the composer had intended to write a second half-note chord but for some reason didn't do while the ties were already there.
This is where they said that dragging the tie ends is so convenient and gives them complete (and easy) control over the final appearance.

When I asked what would happen if they wanted to change the page layout they said, yes, then probably these ties end up *anywhere* and they'd have to redo it. And they even suggested that could happen when they'd only add a note to a chord somewhere or change an accidental. Phew.
I think even worse than having to redo that every time is that you have to *notice* the change in the first place. When that tie suddenly starts at 40% instead of 55% of the note's value this is something that doesn't shout at you - so basically you'd have to *redo* the whole proofing process from scratch!

:-(
