3/4 time and whole notes

Hi,

I'm certain this is online somewhere but I just can't find it. How do I tell Lilypond I want a whole note?

\version "2.18.2" 
{ 
    \time 3/4 
    c1 c1 c1 c1 
}

These have a value of 4 quarters so that doesn't work.
