This sometimes happens to me, too. As nice as it is to just be able to have
bug-free immediate playback in Frescobaldi, I have grown accustomed to
simply calling timidity in a console with something like:
timidity mysong.midi
and that has never NOT worked for me. I've also found that once I do this
(assuming one of the other suggestions doesn't work) then the midi player
within Frescobaldi also starts working. Kinda weird how that happens.
