Actually reading more carefully I'm getting close enough with material in
1.4.1 Long repeats - Manual repeat marks
\set Score.repeatCommands = #'((volta "1")) s1 \bar "||"
\set Score.repeatCommands = #'((volta #f) (volta "Fine")) s1 \bar "||"
\set Score.repeatCommands = #'((volta #f))
