Yes. For any non-trivial music, you really need separate layout and
MIDI blocks:
\score {
\theMusic
\layout {}
}
\score {
\articulate \unfoldRepeats \theMusic
\midi {}
}
(If you want tremolo, etc., articulate is invaluable.)
