Thanks, but this is "as clear as mud" to me right now.  As I've said, I'm a
novice at Lily Pond AND I'm not a programmer. I've been trying to learn to
use this program, and have made a lot of progress the last few months (by
reading the reference material and other online resources), but there's a
tremendous amount I don't understand. This is the first I've actually had to
ask for help, but I'm not understanding the solutions. I've tried (MANY
times, with many different combinations) to insert the relevant code at the
proper locations, but it is not working at all.   Obviously I'm missing
something.  Could someone please explain it in non-programming beginner
terminology?  

The first two staffs are breaking fine.  The third and fourth need to be
combined onto one staff.  It's just a little 8-measure song with a first and
second ending (so 9 total measures).  It shouldn't be this confusing.  I'm
almost ready to give up on it.
