I suppose the last chord should have a duration of 2. rather than 1.? That explains the empty measure at the end (since you enter a duration that actually spans two measures!).
In addition: If you want the note head that you get using e1., but not the extra empty measure,
just use e1.*1/2 (read about "Scaling durations" in the manual).
