Or:
- go to the start of the first line to comment out
- enter visual block mode (ctrl-v)
- move the cursor down
- type shift-i to insert at the start of the line
- type %
- escape out of insert mode
commenting out is done the same way expect the substitution
command is :s/^%//
ctrl-v, select the comment characters, press d
