danke, stefan, but what i need is different from the tremolo slash.
it's thinner, longer, and should cross the beam, just like the image i
posted. for some 40 years this has been the standard way to notate a
group of very fast -or as fast as possible- unmetered notes. i wouldn't
know how to tweak the tremolo slash, and if i could, i suspect the
syntax of the tweak would be much longer and more complicated than
inserting a simple line with postscript. it only needs a bit of trial
and error...
