MIDI volumes

I am trying to change the volume of a Midi track (want one louder than the rest). All I can find is the following which I don't understand. 

midiMaximumVolume (number)
    Analogous to midiMinimumVolume.
midiMinimumVolume (number)
    Sets the minimum loudness for MIDI. Ranges from 0 to 1.
Related question, how do I know if what context these properties apply to (staff, voice etc?)
