As long as the music stays mostly within the same octave, you might
find it easier to use absolute mode and just transpose it to the right
octave. Example:

\transpose c c'{
  c4 c g g | a a g2 | f4 f e e | d d c2 |
  g4 c' f d' | e g, d2 |
}
}
