I'd propose to use typeset the full score including preface,
notation legend, or whatever, in a LaTeX document, using lilypond-book
to include the musical examples. See the section on "Integrating text
and music" in the manual for more information and examples.

Dear list,
What method would people recommend for creating a 'notation legend' to
go at the front of a score. By this, I mean a separate sheet explaining
any unconventional notation, and the meanings of any unusual
terminology.
Thanks,
Jamie
