The simple way to get nice looking PDFs is
ly2dvi -p myfile.ly
However, version 1.6.6 has a bug in handling the vector fonts
so unfortunately you only get garbage if you try.
I recommend to upgrade to version 1.6.8 or later or a recent
development version 1.7.xx.
For documents produced by lilypond-book, use
dvips -Ppdf -G0 -u lilypond.map myfile.dvi
ps2pdf myfile.ps
Again, this won't work in version 1.6.6 but in 1.6.8 or later.
Why isn't this in this described anywhere in the documentation?
In the mailing list archives from the last couple of months, you
can find more information on this particular bug.

Is there any way to get PDF output that doesn't look pixelated? I'm running
1.6.6, and PDFs don't look nearly as nice as the DVI versions. Also, is there
any way to make PDFs with Lilypond book?
