It seems nobody has answered this question. Unfortunately,
then only answer I can come up with is a real hack.
If you add
\property Staff.Script \set #'padding = #4
all scripts (fermatas, staccato dots, ornaments and so on)
will be moved away from the staves. You may have to adjust
the argument to get sufficient space for the chords.
Does anyone have a better solution?
