"make doc" won't do *anything* directly after "make distclean" --
there's no makefiles! He obviously had to run ../configure, and
he said that he followed the instructions for building in build/,
which clearly says to run "make", so I don't think that this is a
problem.
There's certainly nothing in his build log that suggests that he
failed to run "make". It looks like a normal doc build failure to
me.
