https://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=4438Re #3: that does not sound like a valid reason. In that case, instrument-specific-markup-interface should not be used for anything but harp pedals in the first place. And if that is the case, it should be named harp-pedal-interface instead.
