Hmmm... would it make sense to have KeySignature grobs do less (fewer  
property lookups, etc.) when they have no alterations?  Basically move the  
optimization a step "downstream" so the grobs are created but then have  
them be smarter about what they need to do.

I have no idea whether this would be (a) worth it or (b) feasible, just  
thinking out loud...
