Just a thought on syntax (comment 5):  How about something analogous to  
Python list indexing?

(on-page = -1)  The last page
(on-page = -2)  The penultimate page
(on-page > -3)  The last two pages

">" and "<" could be pronounced "after" and "before", respectively.
