That looks like a mismatch between the library headers used at compilation  
time and the actual libraries used at link time (which may just be  
libraries that need to be specified for linking at the command line).

Did you remove all .o files between tries?  make clean or so?

Oh, and of course

rm -rf autom4te.cache

before running ./autogen.sh ?  And if you now go "WTF?" that's exactly my  
take on this.
